  • Bronx branch of CAC donates to save pregnant breast cancer patient

Christ Apostolic Church International (CACI), Bronx New York Assembly’s generous donation to Meena Breast Cancer Foundation has enabled Madam Belinda Awuye, a breast cancer patient to undergo successful treatment.

Madam Awuye, a pregnant woman from Bawjiase in the Central region faced the unfortunate condition and was unable to access proper medical care forcing her to resort to herbal treatment.

“Over time, a small lump appeared in my breast, causing me discomfort and concern,” Belinda said.

Due to limited resources, she was unable to seek medical attention.

My condition deteriorated rapidly as the infection spread, causing the tissue in the breast to decay. “The unbearable pain kept me awake at night” she recounted.

Belinda said “I had my right breast rotten, while seeking herbal treatment. Over time, there was an improvement in my condition. Six months later, the breast swelled again.

Mr. James Akorli, husband of Belinda said “I don’t have money to pay for the hospital bills because the masonry work didn’t fetch me enough money and I had no option than to send her to a prayer camp”.

A health practitioner at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital introduced the woman to MBCF about her predicament to see how best the organization could help her.

When the church learned of Madam Belinda’s plight, it donated one thousand one hundred and fifteen cedis (¢1115.00), the amount needed for her surgery.

From the observation of MBCF, her suffering could have been prevented if she had early access to medical care and the knowledge to identify the significance of her condition.

Meena Breast Cancer Foundation was established to create awareness of the disease all year round and to support women and men with breast cancer to lead healthy and meaningful lives.
