  • We are dying; Please help us – Breast cancer patient cries for gov’t support

Breast cancer patients are calling on government to intervene to save them from perishing.

A 38-year-old patient, Vivian Sowah has added her voice to the call for help to get treatment.

Madam Sowah who had been battling breast cancer for over a year has been struggling to get proper medical treatment due to financial challenges.

“When I was diagnosed with the disease, I was asked to run some tests but I cannot afford them,” she said.

As a result of her difficulties, she approached the Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) for support.

With tears due to the unbearable pain from the wounds of the cancer on her tummy, she pleaded to government to make treatment of the disease affordable or even free.

“Government, please help us. We are dying. We need you to make treatment affordable,” she cried.

Madam Sowah said her breast cancer journey began when her breast hardened while she was six months pregnant but ignorance of the signs of the disease blinded her from seeking attention.

Her affected breast, she indicated burst into a sore after she delivered her baby and since then she has been through agonizing pain.

“When I was attending prenatal care, I did not make the nurses see my hardened breast. It was after it became that I went to a health facility where I was told it was breast cancer. Now, I am facing the worst in my life,” she said.

Meena Breast Cancer Foundation has been at the forefront of the crusade to make breast cancer treatment accessible through its support to patients to get proper medical care.

The Foundation has been fighting the disease all year round to deepen awareness.

With its fight, MBCF has engaged thousands of women with its students, community, and institutional engagements and has paid for the treatment of many patients.
