Abena Kumiwa Osae who represented the Minister of Health spoke on behalf of the Ministry

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has admitted not doing enough to promote the well-being of breast cancer patients.

A Programmes Officer of the Ministry, Abena Kumiwa Osae said her outfit has not been that proactive with policies that will make the fight against breast cancer easy, but assured the general public of an upturn in the fight against the disease.

Madam Osae was representing the Minister of Health, Agyeman Manu at a press conference organized by Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) in Accra.

The year-old breast cancer advocacy Non-Governmental Organization sought to present the state of breast cancer care in the country.

According to Abena Kumiwa Osae, it appeared the Ministry is doing little to fight the disease ‘but we have breast cancer in mind.’

She said the Ministry is yet to outline measures to ensure an effective fight against the dreaded disease.

“I admit that the government has a lot more to do and we are working tirelessly to increase access to healthcare services and education, particularly in rural areas where resources and access are mostly limited,” Madam Osae said.

She encouraged victims of breast cancer to seek early treatment to save their lives.

Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) is fighting breast cancer daily. It has supported hundreds of patients to undergo treatment.
